I’m the one of those lucky souls who gains 5lbs just from looking at a piece of cheesecake. I used to eat whatever I wanted when I was playing basketball and volleyball in high school (Slurpee, Butterfingers bar and Wendy’s fries for dinner after practice? Sure, why not). But once basketball season ended my senior year and I kept on eating the same crappy food, it was a big “ruh-roh” moment that bonked me over the head. And hips. And butt. And thighs.
Fast forward 6 years and I have a starch-free, sugar-free diet that works for me. I’ve gotten used to the taste of sugar-free candies and ice cream to give me a sweet fix, but the real thing it ain’t. The one thing I do splurge on is PB&J. You’d have to pry the mini PB&J Trader Joe’s whole wheat pita sandwiches from my cold dead hands before I give that one up.
I am all for rewards, and graduating next year is a good enough time as any to congratulate myself and eat something amazing that I haven’t had in years (It’s also sad that I can plan these type of lists a year ahead of time but can’t write a paper for class until the week it’s due). Here are some options that I’m considering:
- Huge-ass slice of carrot cake or carrot cake cheesecake
- Dutch apple caramel streusel cheesecake
- A freshly made jumbo eclair
- Crepes with jam, honey, nutella, fudge, whipped cream
- Bananas Foster French Toast or Upside-Down Apple French Toast with Cranberries and Pecans
- Maple glazed bar + crumb donut
Side note: I do love to bake, but I don’t eat what I make. It’s more of the act that’s relaxing; and if it’s enjoyed by those who snarf it down, then I’m happy.
