Duke, Duke, Duke. Duke of…

I’m currently reading All Dressed In White: The Irresistible Rise of the American Wedding by Carol McD. Wallace, which chronicles the evolution of marriage in America and how it’s gone from a discreet ceremony to an elaborate public event. I hit the section of history where in the late 1800s a lot of British dukes were seeking out American girls to marry, and it was maybe the first time I wished I were born in another time. Of course, it was because their own estates were dwindling and they needed the investment from the rich American fathers-in-law. And they were most likely drunk skeezy cheating bastards. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers – British is British.
